MARGAO
With the rains subsiding and the State witnessing bright sunny weather over the last few days, the chambers on the Margao municipal building pavement have stopped overflowing.
After the issue found a mention in the ongoing session of the legislative assembly, the MMC sanitation has now spread bleaching powder on the pavement, but the bigger question remains unanswered “ what if the State is lashed by heavy rains and there’s backflow of sewage water from the underground sewage line?
Sources in the know have informed that the MMC sanitary section has sprayed the bleaching power on the pavement as part of an operation to clean up the area. Officials in private admitted that the MMC should take a quick decision on whether to cap the two overflowing sewage chambers with concrete before another spell of rains.
“The bleaching powder spread on the pavement is just a temporary measure for the moment. If the rains resume, the two sewage chambers will overflow again. To prevent the overflowing, one measure that could be explored is to cap the chambers with concrete,” remarked an MMC officer.
The officer added that the MMC officials should take a quick decision in view of the prevailing dry spell before rains hit the state again.
