Pernem MLA Pravin Arlekar has stated that a new Rs 22 crore bridge will replace the 45-year-old narrow bridge at Chandel-Hasapur.
He was speaking after inspecting work at the construction site in the presence of Chandel Hasapur Sarpanch Bala Shetkar, Deputy Sarpanch Ruchira Malik, PWD officials and locals.
Arlekar said the existing narrow bridge, situated on the main road within the Chandel Hasapur Panchayat area, had deteriorated over the years.
He noted that the contractor awarded the project had completed the work on a war footing within barely four months. MLA Pravin Arlekar stated that the bridge would be opened for traffic before the monsoon.
He noted that if heavy rains were to occur during this final stage of construction, water level on the alternative route could rise significantly, potentially causing inconvenience to traffic. Arlekar assured the public that contingency plans have already been devised to address such scenarios.
The MLA expressed gratitude to motorists and locals for bearing up with inconveniences and extending patience and support while the bridge construction work was underway.
Chandel Sarpanch Bala Shetkar also spoke on the occasion.
