Responding to concerns raised by people during a police-public interaction at Canacona, DIG Kumar said: “A highest form of investigation is being carried out by the police with no compromise whatsoever in nature. The evidence is strong and there is no chance of doubt in the investigations. The chargesheet will be filed within 2-3 days. The accused will get maximum conviction in the case,” said DIG Kumar.
Declining to divulge any more details to mediapersons at the meeting, DIG Kumar merely added, “Everything will be known within the next 2-3 days when the chargesheet will be filed.”
DIG Kumar earlier heard other grievances of the residents, which included some invited citizens, members of NGOs and Forum for Senior Citizens of Canacona.
Some people complained to the police top brass that many corrupt policemen were colluding with anti-social elements and alleged that some cops were leaking out information about raids or action against anti-social elements.
The residents also asked the police officials to keep a strict watch on drug-related activities in Canacona taluka.
“CCTVs should be installed at strategic locations, including main junctions and important tourist places to monitor the movement of nefarious characters,” requested a resident.
When DIG Kumar asked the people to come out openly and register police complaints against anti-social activities, the residents expressed their reluctance to do so on account of possible repercussions due to the collusion between some policemen and anti-social elements. “There was an incident where a policeman was assaulted by these goons, and instead of registering a police complaint the matter was compromised,” claimed a resident.
People also sought police intervention in reducing road accidents and highlighted the need for traffic police to keep a watch near college and higher secondary campuses.
Among the residents who put forth their views included Vishwas Prabhudessai, Suresh Naikgaunkar, Meena Gaonkar, Glen Martin, R S Nayak, Milan Desai, Ramesh Desai, Shantaji Desai, Sandesh Telekar, Divakar Pagi and Samrat Bhagat.
SP Chandan Chaudhary, DySP Quepem Sammy Tavares, newly-posted Canacona PI Rajendra Prabhudessai, Canacona Deputy Collector Kedar Naik and Joint Mamlatdar Dattaraj Gauns Desai were present.
