It’s a bonanza for Goa’s ministers, MLAs and ex-MLAs in time for the Ganesh Chathurti festival.
The State government earlier this week notified the two amendments to the laws governing their salaries giving effect from April 1 this year to a whopping 70 per-cent increase in their take-home pay packages.
Legislators, who hitherto got nearly Rs one-lakh a month will now take home Rs 1.7 lakh after The Goa Salary, Allowances and Pension of Members of the Legislative Assembly (Fifth Amendment) Act, 2018 came into force from Monday when it was notified by the Law Department.
The hikes in salaries takes effect from April 1 this year.
The amendment was granted assent by Governor Mridula Sinha on September 3 and the Law Department issued the notification in the official gazette on September 10.
The hike in the monthly take-home salaries of the netas will cost the State Exchequer an additional Rs 7.5 crores annually.
Separately, the amendment which gives effiect to salary hikes for cabinet ministers also got the Governor’s nod and was similarly notified by the Law Department.
The hike in pay was effected by making applicable the principle of Dearness Allowance adopted by the VII Pay Commission for Central Government employees to the formula used to arrive at the salary figures for the MLAs and ministers.
