Chaudi town gets a clean up
Ruling councillors and students engage on a cleanliness drive
CANACONA
The Canacona Municipal Council (CMC) on Friday conducted a 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyan' cleanliness drive in some prime areas at Chaudi.
Led by its Chairperson Prathana Naik Gaunkar, the staff and most ruling group councillors moved from CMC premises to KTC bus stand and collected plastic and other waste in polyethylene bags.
Students of Shri Katiyani Baneshwari Vidyalaya at Kindlem also joined the councillors and municipal staff.
While the footpath along the NH17 was taken up for the drive, a large amount of plastic was also collected from adjacent paddy fields, near to the KTC bus stand. At least five large black polyethylene bags were filled and deposited in the backyard of CMC administrative building.
Councillors Chaya Komarpant, Divakar Pagui and Deputy Chairperson Samita Dhuri were present.
Incidentally, councillors in the last meeting had criticized and questioned the chief officer for not adhering to regular cleanliness of municipal areas, especially the Chaudi town, leading to accumulation of all dirt and plastic around.
The councillors have demanded proper utilization of daily wage workers, especially the sweepers, and had also asked to engage more workers, as existing ones are insufficient.
