Chief Minister Pramod Sawant met the Archbishop of Goa and Daman Cardinal Filipe Neri Ferrão to seek advice and discuss preparations for the upcoming exposition of St. Francis Xavier. The event, held once every ten years, is set to be organized on a grand scale, attracting international tourists and significant VIP guests. Key topics covered during their meeting included infrastructure, transportation, the guest list, and law and order arrangements in Old Goa and other parts of the state.
"The exposition occurs once in 10 years, so the preparations are started early. We had a detailed discussion, and the committee has visited the site. This year’s exposition will be held on a grand scale as it’s not just a national event but an international event with tourists coming from the world over," said Sawant.
Provisions will be made for VIP guests per protocols, including international dignitaries and archbishops from other states. "International VIP guests will also come along with archbishops from other states," Sawant added.
In light of the extensive preparations required, Sawant has requested 300 crores from the government. "This year we requested the government for 300 crores because the exposition takes place once in 10 years. I'm sure the government will help us," he stated.
The Chief Minister also expressed hope for a Papal visit to Goa, although it has not yet been confirmed. "I requested the Prime Minister to invite the Pope; the invitation should go from the union government," Sawant said.
The exposition committee will schedule another meeting after the upcoming assembly sessions to discuss any pending issues.
