Goa Children’s Court on Thursday granted anticipatory bail to noted singer and Padmashree Remo Luis Fernandes in the case of alleged verbal abuse of a minor after his car, being driven by his son, Jonah, struck a minor girl injuring her grievously.
The order pronounced by Children’s Court President Vandana Tendulkar laid down that in the event of Remo’s arrest, he shall be released on bail after furnishing personal bond of Rs 50,000 with one solvent and preferably local surety of the same amount, to the satisfaction of IO.
Remo has been ordered to report to the IO at Agacaim Police Station for ten days from January 8 from 10 am to 1 pm. The Court has also directed Remo to deposit his passport with the IO till the chargesheet is filed in the case. He has also been directed not to leave the State or the country without prior permission of the Court.
“The applicant shall not influence or contact or induce or threaten the witnesses or tamper with the evidence in any manner,” reads the order.
Remo has been further ordered to furnish his permanent address, phone number and all his contact details to the IO.
Issuing separate orders in the same case, the Children’s Court also dismissed two applications from Adv Aires Rodrigues to cross-examine Remo and another requesting the Court to monitor the investigation if the case. The application from Kashinath Shetye to intervene in the case was also dismissed.
Reacting to the Court order, Adv Rodrigues observed that the Court has appropriately imposed stringent conditions on the accused while granting the anticipatory bail.
“These are very stringent conditions as Goa Children’s Act is a serious act. This is the only Act where the accused has to prove his innocence. This is a very good order passed by the Court,” he said.
