The Directorate of Fisheries in association with National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB), Hyderabad, will be organising the third edition of Aqua Goa Fish Festival 2016 from January 7 to 10 opposite District Library, Navelim, which will be inaugurated by Deputy Chief Minister Francis D’Souza on January 7 
at 10 a.m.   
Announcing this at a press conference on Tuesday, Fisheries Minister Avertano Furtado, said the festival will showcase Goa’s rich and varied species from the underwater world, and will also include exhibitions and sales of various aqua products and variety of sea food delicacies. 
The motto of the festival is to promote Goa’s rich fish culture, the fishing industry and to create awareness amiong general public. 
“The festival will provide a common platform for stakeholders to come together to build a strong economy and sustainability in the fisheries sector, and to form a win-win bond between the traditional fishing industry and a technology-driven industry which will benefit the fishing community and create general awareness and promotion of upcoming entrepreneurs in the fishing industry,” Avertano informed.  
The highlight of the event will be the aquarian fish gallery consisting of marine, fresh water, exotic and commercial stalls, apart from competitions and quiz contests for children and adults, seminars and entertainment programmes.   
Eminent speakers and scientists from various various prestigious institutions will be available for interaction at 
the festival.   
Director of Fisheries, Shamila Monteiro, said institutions like NIO, ICAR and MPEDA will showcase their activities, while the Director of Fisheries, Government of Jharkhand, will deliver a lecture on cage farming and cultivating fallow lands for acquaculture.  
Responding to a question, Monteiro pegged the total expenditure to be incurred for the festival at `1.5 crore, of which `25 to `30 lakh will be shared by the NFDB. A total of 44 stalls will display various aqua items, she added.  
Goa’s nightingale Lorna along with Neffie Rod will be performing live at Navelim on January 10.
