OLD GOA
Grappling with the issue of garbage, the Chimbel panchayat authorities accompanied by the garbage committee members paid a visit to the Saligao waste plant, on Friday, in a bid to get permission to send its waste to the plant.
However, the officials who took the delegation around the plant did not give any assurance but asked the Chimbel panchayat to approach the Goa Waste Management Corporation for the permission.
“As of now, we are handling around 150 tonnes which is more than the capacity of the plant,” an official told the delegation but at the same time said that if government grants permission and if the panchayat sends segregated waste, then Chimbel waste could be accepted.
The officials also advised the Chimbel authorities to chalk out a detailed garbage management plan like door-to-door ward wise garbage collection, garbage collection points, routes, etc before asking for permission to send waste.
