Moved by the plight of the two Dhangar Samaj families rendered homeless after their houses were demolished at Saleli-Sattari earlier this week, Health Minister Vishwajit Rane has assured to rehabilitate the two families within a short time.
He also promised an enquiry into the action by authorities in demolishing the two houses.
Rane visited this site on Saturday along with the Dhangar Samaj leaders to take stock of the situation.
“A thorough enquiry will be conducted regarding the action taken by authorities concerned to demolish two houses without intimating these families, as a result of which, the families faced huge losses as their household items were damaged during the demolition drive,” said Rane.
“Officials will be held accountable for such inhumane act and I will meet Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Monday to discuss the issue,” he told reporters.
He added that efforts would be made to consider rehabilitating the two families within the Honda panchayat jurisdiction under the 20-point programme scheme if possible.
In the meanwhile, Rane directed the Dhangar Samaj President B D Mote to identify space in the vicinity to rehabilitate them soon and assured that necessary expenditure will be borne by the Sattari Yuva Morcha.
“Also, priority will be given to students, so that their education should not be affected,’ he said.
