OLD GOA
The Chimbel panchayat has finally decided to collect door-to-door waste in the entire village from July 1.
In this regard, panchayat authorities along with the garbage committee members have begun an awareness drive asking the people to keep dry and wet waste separately.
Chimbel Sarpanch Chandrakant Kunkolkar, Deputy Sarpanch Manisha Chopdekar, Panchayat Secretary Lency Juliao along with all panchas and garbage committee members are participating in the awareness drive.
It was a long pending demand of the Chimbel locals and the issue of growing garbage menace was raised several times in the gram sabha with a request to begin waste collection at the earliest.
Speaking to The Goan, Kunkolkar informed that awareness on garbage collection drive was started in Ward 10 on Monday at 5 pm and continued till 8 pm.
“The drive will continue till Saturday and all wards will be covered. We are also distributing pamphlets to people which contains information on wet and dry waste,” Kunkolkar added and further stated that awareness on loudspeaker is also done simultaneously.
“The panchayat will provide wet wastebins to every household in which only wet waste should be kept. The dry waste needs to be kept separately and the workers will collect it by going door to door,” Kunkolkar informed and urged the villagers not to mix the waste as it will not be accepted. “We have also finalised a garbage fee of Rs 600 for every household whereas fees for commercial establishments varies depending on the type of business conducted,” he added.
The sarpanch has requested for co-operation for making the drive a success.
