Residents of Dandeavaddo-Chinchinim upped the ante against government’s plan to build a flyover at Dandeavaddo and have reiterated their long-pending demand for a road bypass.
In a last ditch effort, a delegation comprising of the residents along with Velim MLA Cruz Silva and Chinchinim Sarpanch Frank Viegas and panchayat members called on Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to explore the possibility of dropping the flyover proposal and build a road bypass instead.
The Velim MLA and Chinchinim Sarpanch explained to the Chief Minister how the construction of the road bypass instead of a flyover will reduce the cost of the road construction.
Armed with the NOC from the local comunidade body, the delegation reminded the Chief Minister of his promise made last year that the government may do a rethink on the approved alignment if the residents and the panchayat body obtain a NOC from the local comunidade body. “We reminded the Chief Minister that they have managed to obtain the NOC from the local comunidade body and it is now the responsibility of the government to shelve plans for the highway on stilts passing through Dandeavaddo and to build the road bypass on comuniade property,” the Velim MLA told The Goan.
After giving the delegation a patient hearing, the Chief Minister told the delegation to meet a senior PWD official and explain them the benefits of the road bypass over the flyover at Dandeavaddo.
The Chief Minister later sent the delegation to PWD senior official Dattaprasad Kamat and explained the position on the road bypass and the flyover. “We have explained Kamat in detail how the consultant roped in by the Centre did not propose the road bypass at Chinchinim, but had insisted on the flyover at the village,” he added.
Cruz informed that the PWD official Dattaprasad Kamat has promised to hold a power point presentation for the benefit of the villages on priority and take further action in the long-pending demand for construction of the road bypass.
