The Chinchinim panchayat has appealed to the people as well as the vendors to ensure a plastic-free fair on the occasion of the Feast of Our Lady of Hope Church, Chinchinim on September 11.
Addressing the media after a meeting with the stakeholders, sarpanch Valentino Barretto told the media that the panchayat will enforce the ban on plastic below 75 microns.
He urged the people visiting the fair as well as the vendors and hawkers to cooperate with the authorities in enforcing the ban on plastic below 75 microns.
The sarpanch informed that no stalls will be permitted on the road between the Church and the cemetery this time.
“There have been instances of pickpocketing on the road in the past during the fair as vendors used to set up stalls along the road. The students of the Higher Secondary School also face inconveniences due to the stalls along the road,” he said.
Valentino further informed that the Margao Traffic Cell and the Cuncolim Police have extended their cooperation in regulating the traffic on the day of the feast as well as on all days of the fair.
Meanwhile, the panchayat is organizing a health camp at the Church hall on September 4 from 10 am to 1 pm in association with Manipal hospitals and ASG eye hospital.
He said that breast cancer screening and bone marrow density will be conducted by specialists, including a spine specialist.
