A delegation of villagers of Chinchinim called on Congress-turned-BJP MLA Digambar Kamat with a plea to take up with the State and central government the issue of the Dandeavaddo road bypass.
Led by Chinchinim Sarpanch Valentino Barretto and deputy Sarpanch Sharmila Gracias, the residents brought to Kamat’s notice how the National Highway authorities have changed the plan of the highway bypass expansion plans from construction of a road bypass at Dandeavaddo to an elevated concrete structure.
Kamat discussed the matter with the PWD, NH-66 Executive Engineer Dattaprasad Kamat to find out the ground reality in respect of the issues raised by the residents of Dandeavaddo-Chinchinim.
After the meeting, the Chinchinim Sarpanch informed that Kamat has given them a patient hearing and promised to take up their grievances with the concerned authorities. “We have called on Kamat since the National Highway authorities had finalised the Dandeavaddo road bypass during his stint as the State’s Chief Minister,” Barretto informed.
He said the residents are unhappy with the decision of the National Highways to scrap the Dandeavaddo road bypass and settle for a flyover passing through the congested Dandevaddo stretch. “The residents are facing the problem because land admeasuring 80 metres on both sides of the existing highway has been frozen. Why should the people suffer for no fault of theirs,” the Sarpanch questioned, pointing out that a road bypass would have taken permanent care of the traffic requirements on the national highway.
