Chinchinim village panchayat members led by Sarpanch Valentino Barretto on Friday knocked the doors of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant with a fervent plea to the government to take up the long-pending Panchayat Ghar cum Multi-purpose Complex project in the village.
Though the delegation is believed to have received no concrete assurance on the project, the Chief Minister has assured the sarpanch that the government would soon call a meeting to discuss the project in detail given the huge cost involved in the execution of the project.
The delegation submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister drawing his attention to the project, which has been pending for the last decade and half. Sources said the Chief Minister seemed aware of the long-pending project since he had earlier headed the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) as its vice-chairman.
Sarpanch Valentino informed that the delegation explained the Chief Minister over the long-pending project and impressed upon him the need to implement the project by sanctioning the necessary funds.
“The Chief Minister gave the delegation a patient hearing. Since the project involves huge cost towards its execution, the Chief Minister has assured to convene a meeting with the panchayat members and officials to decide how to go about the project,” he said.
Valentino pointed out that the delegation impressed upon the Chief Minister to take up the project in phases if funds come in the way of the execution of the Rs 23 crore project. “The Panchayat Ghar cum Multipurpose Utility project has been hanging fire since the land for the project was acquired by the Chinchinim panchayat way back in 2006. Already close to 18 years have passed since land for the project was acquired by the panchayat body,” he said, adding the panchayat will do the follow up with government.
