Chorao locals to get cheaper RoRo rides

CM agrees to cut car fares and allow free two-wheeler passage

PANAJI

After repeated requests from Chorao residents, the State government has agreed to reduce RoRo ferry charges for locals.

At a meeting with Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Monday, villagers were told that the fare for cars owned by Chorao residents will be reduced from Rs 30 to Rs 10, while two-wheelers will be given free passage.

“The CM assured us that the new rates will be introduced within 8-10 days. The River Navigation Department will set up a counter in the village to issue special passes for local vehicles. He also agreed to add more ferries on the route to reduce congestion,” one villager told the media.

Residents also noted that out of the 300-400 cars using the RoRo service daily, only about 50-60 actually belong to Chorao villagers.
