Churches skip Mass

MARGAO

Perhaps for the first time in recent history, the Sunday services in most of the city-based churches were cancelled in view of the coronavirus scare.

Going by the circular received from the Archdiocese, Sunday mass service did not take place in churches including the Holy Spirit, Grace and the Carmelite Monastery.

The compound of the Holy Spirit Church wore a deserted look as this is perhaps the first time it was closed on a Sunday. There was no movement of the laity around and the church doors remained shut for the day.

A similar situation prevailed at most of the other churches which cancelled the Sunday masses.

Sources say the situation may continue in some of the churches, with the Carmelite Monastery putting up a notice at the entrance stating there will be no confession, masses and way of the cross until further notice.
