The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) on Wednesday strongly denied allegations that its personnel had been dumping garbage behind the pavilions of MPT grounds in Baina.
Incidentally, CISF officials carried out a cleanliness drive on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti and were seen clearing garbage behind the pavilion.
A CISF official told The Goan that they were occupying only a part of the area on the MPT ground which is open for public.
CISF officials also pointed out that the municipal garbage collection agent was irregular on the collection of the garbage of the CISF unit.
“We are part of a disciplined force and are at the forefront to maintain the Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan. However, since we occupy only a part of the ground which is open to the public and belongs to the MPT, we have no authority to stop anyone coming here for matches.”
“Quite often, there are games and a lot of people come with food items and water bottles and occupy the pavilion. They could have dumped the garbage behind the pavilion. We have no authority to keep a tab on people who come to play here,” the CISF official said.
The official said the CISF garbage is handed over to the municipal garbage collection person, but claimed that the collector has been irregular.
“Even if the person does not come, we call him and our garbage is then handed over to him in closed garbage bags,” insisted the official.
“Even though the garbage from behind the pavilion has not been generated by us, we decided to clear this area first as a beginning to a new chapter and clear the garbage, no matter who has dumped it.”
“Our staff use the ground to exercise and jog in the morning, but none of our staff eat on the pavilion or dumps the garbage behind the pavilion because there is no point littering the area around an area where we live,” the official added.
