MARGAO
Following the brutal assault on a local rider by a group of miscreants in a road rage, angry citizens on Friday called for the verification of the antecedents of deliver boys engaged by online delivery companies in the commercial capital.
The residents also demanded that the police also book the accused in the attack on Vishwas Babu at Borda some days ago, for attempt to murder.
Agitated residents led by Curtorim MLA Reginaldo Lourenco, Adv Rajiv Gomes and others called on Sub-Divisional Police Officer, Margao DySP Serafino Dias and demanded the immediate arrest of the accused for attempt to murder.
They pointed out that the accused persons involved in the brutal attack on Vishwas Babu, with an accused even seen hitting the victim with a stone, should not be allowed to go scot free in the case. The citizens also claimed that the Borda road has witnessed similar incidents of road rage in the recent past, with miscreants mercilessly beating up persons without any rhyme or reason.
In the instant case, one of the accused is working as a delivery boy for an online food delivery service in the city. The accused are seen brutally assaulting the victim, who is presently recuperating in the hospital with serious injuries.
“If the staff engaged by the online delivery services have engaged persons with criminal background, the police should check their antecedents,” the citizens demanded.
DySP Serafino gave the delegation a patient hearing, saying the police will not only nab the culprits, but would consider adding the attempt to murder offence against them. He further said the police would write to the online delivery service companies to get the antecedents of their employees verified before engaging the workers.
