Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, in a written reply to the Goa Legislative Assembly has stated that 188 mining leases have got the benefit of ‘deemed extension' as per the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Act, 2015.

Replying to a question by Curchorem MLA Nilesh Cabral, Parrikar claimed that there are a total of 277 valid iron ore mining leases in the State of Goa of which 89 mining leases are ‘executed' of which 48 are in operation. Parrikar also claimed that iron ore production for the year 2015-16 was 7.29 million metric tons while for the year 2016-17 it was exactly as mandated by the Supreme Court cap of 20 million metric tons. Parrikar said that those leases which are expiring on March 31, 2020 will be auctioned.
IT and Revenue Minister, Rohan Khaunte, has informed that four companies have already shown interest in setting up units at the upcoming Tuem ESDM (electronics, system, design and manufacturing) park.
