Describing the Jogger’s Park at Chicalim as the best park across the country in the rural area, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Monday appealed to all Comunidades in the State to help panchayats in development projects which can benefit villages.
He was addressing a gathering after inaugurating Phase Two of the Jogger’s Park in the presence of Panchayats Minister Mauvin Godinho, Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar, Mormugao MLA Sankalp Amonkar, Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) Chairperson Girish Borker, Chicalim Sarpanch Kamla Prasad Yadav and others.
“I can say that no one will find a park like this in a panchayat area anywhere in the entire country. The foundation stone for the Jogger’s park phase one and two were laid by former defence minister late Manohar Parrikar and Godinho has already proposed the works on third phase which will be shortly taken up under GSIDC,” said Sawant.
“I would like to heartily offer my gratitude to the Comunidade who have been generous enough to offer such a huge piece of land for this project without which this would not be possible. No other Comunidade in the entire State would have given so much land and I appeal to all Comunidades in the State to help panchayats in development projects which can benefit villages.”
The chief minister also appreciated the many amenities and facilities at the park, which include over 3,000 flower bearing and fruit bearing trees, library, gym, amphitheatre, food court, Mahila Bhavan.
“The project is also a self-sustainable project where gardening water is generated from sewage waste and power is generated from the garbage plant, which is a visionary approach for any development projects. We will replicate such projects in other parts of the State and we will take promote many more development projects in entire Mormugao Taluka.”
“I appeal to all panchayats to visit Chicalim and see the Wealth out of Waste (WooW) plant during the day and spend the evening at this beautiful Jogger’s park so that such projects can be replicated across all other panchayats. Communidades in the State must take an example of Chicalim communidade and offer similar support to their panchayats and the government,” said Sawant.
Panchayats Minister Mauvin Godinho said entry to the park was free to everyone.
“This park is not restricted to only jogging but has many facilities available to all age groups ranging from toddler, teenager, middle age and senior citizens. We will have certain activities like the food court, etc. that will require payment and the money earned will be ploughed back towards maintenance of this park. We may also have some events hosted here and all the income generated from such activities will be used for the maintenance of this park,” said Godinho.
