Chief Minister Pramod Sawant stressed the need to preserve and promote local languages and cultures in Goa. He was speaking at the opening of the first World Chitpavani Language Conference held in Bicholim.
The Chief Minister said local languages and cultures are a key part of the State’s identity. He added that protecting them cannot be left to the government alone and needs active support from the community.
The conference aims to promote the Chitpavani language, spoken by the Chitpavan Brahmin community in Goa and other parts of the country. It is organised by the Chitpavani Language Development Association and the Chitpavan Brahmin Sangh, Gomantak.
The event includes poetry readings, drama, and music performances in Chitpavani. It also provides a platform for discussions on ways to preserve and promote the language and culture.
Sawant urged the community to take steps to safeguard the language and assured full government support. The conference is being attended by language lovers, scholars, and members of the community from across the State and the country. He was felicitated by Deepak Marathe at the conference in Bicholim.
