State BJP President Damu Naik on Sunday gave a call to the party rank and file to gear up for the Assembly election due in early 2027.

Addressing party workers at the BJP South district office to mark the completion of his one year as party president, Damu said the Assembly election is exactly a year away and it is high time party workers descended on the battlefield to secure victory for the party.

Giving credit to party workers for the success of the party programmes in the last one year after taking over the reins of leadership a year ago, Damu, however, cautioned the party against being complacent or indulging in petty intra-party squabbles, saying this would only benefit the opposition parties.

“While the BJP is on the ground, interacting with the people throughout the year in one way or another, the opposition only wakes up from deep slumber on the eve of elections and, despite not doing any work, takes sizeable votes and seats. Our workers should be alert all the time and work for the success of the party,” he added.

Speaking of the challenges ahead, the party president spoke about the upcoming civic polls and the Ponda by-poll. “I expect party workers to put their heart and soul not only into the Municipal election, but also into the Ponda by-poll to retain the seat,” he said.

Damu conceded that petty infighting among workers had benefited the opposition parties in the recently held Zilla Panchayat polls, with a couple of party candidates losing the election by a whisker.

“We have information that the opposition won a couple of seats purely because of infighting among our workers. We should all try to bring all workers together and achieve the dream set by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to make India a superpower,” he added.
