Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant has stated that his government was just as committed to the Mhadei water dispute with Karnataka, as it has been with the mining issue in the State.
“At no cost will the government remain silent in order to save Mhadei river, which is the lifeline of Goa,” said Dr Sawant, while addressing a gathering at the concluding function of the three-day Mhadei Lokotsav at Thane-Sattari.
This is the first such event in Sattari Taluka and all villages in Sattari taluka participated in the event with traditional food stalls and traditional cultural programmes.
“Due to this three-day festival, the people of Goa will learn the importance of Mhadei river and this event will definitely help develop culinary tourism and traditional culture of Sattari Taluka.”
The chief minister also appealed to the people of Goa to be a part of all-round development of the State in the field of education and social development.
He also commended the team organising the three-day Lok Utsav without seeking any financial assistance from the State government, but assured financial assistance to organise such events in Sattari Taluka in future.
Earlier, the working president of organising committee Uday Sawant briefed the gathering about the three-day Lok Utsav and also requested the chief minister to render his support to the event.
Keti ZP member Fati Gaonkar, Thane Sarpanch Sarita Gaonkar, Organising Committee President Lakshman Gawas and Uttam Gaonkar were also present on this occasion.
The three-day event was inaugurated by Governor Mridula Sinha in the presence of former chief minister and local Poriem MLA Pratapsing Rane.
In her address, Sinha encouraged people to promote traditional activity in Goa and said the agriculture sector should also be showcased at such events for the all round development of the State.
