A woman who has accused Panjim Congress candidate Atanasio (Babush) Monserrate of raping her, is reported to have gone out on the morning of April 27, before she was dropped back by an unknown man to her place of residence that night and went missing the next day.
The victim, who has been pursuing a fashion designing course and was residing at a rehabilitation centre in South Goa for about a year, was also reported to have gone missing thrice in the past, but had eventually returned to the centre.
According to sources, the woman was living in a rehabilitation centre in South Goa and was studying fashion designing course in a college.
Sources said the woman had gone out on April 27 and had returned in the evening at 9 pm with an unknown man, who dropped her on his motorcycle. She then went missing the next day.
Speaking to The Goan, Mormugao DySP Sunita Sawant said, “She had been kept in a rehabilitation centre where she was staying since the last one year. She has gone missing since April 28 and investigations have revealed that she had intentions to go to college,” said DySP Sawant.
“The woman had gone missing on three occasions in the past, but she would return to the centre. But this time, she did not return and that’s why a missing complaint was filed and as per directions of Supreme Court, we have registered the offence of abduction under Section 365,” said DySP Sawant.
DySP Sawant said the woman was a victim of a crime reported earlier and the matter is before the court.
“Investigations are in progress. We could trace her movements from the time she left the rehabilitation centre up to a certain place near Zuarinagar,” said DySP Sawant.
“She wanted to go to Vasco but since the bus was not going to Vasco, she alighted near Zuarinagar and wanted to take another bus. She did not have money with her at that time and we have tracked her till there. Our investigation to trace the woman is
in progress,” DySP Sawant added.
