Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and Agriculture Minister Ravi Naik on Friday appealed to people to avoid eating frog meat.
Addressing a large gathering during the inauguration of the new Zonal Agriculture Office at Cortalim Market complex, Sawant said: “We need to protect frogs which will also benefit farmers in many ways. We will arrest people who kill frogs for their meat and I appeal people not to consume frog meat. We have got used to killing any animal and eating the meat, but we have to unite now to maintain a fine balance of the ecosystem and save frogs from being killed for their meat,” said Sawant
Agriculture Minister Ravi Naik said different kinds of frogs will appear in the monsoons but people must not kill them.
“Monsoons are an important time for frogs and they are an important part of the environment. People must not kill frogs. There are new laws that prohibit killing of frogs and many people who usually go at night to catch frogs must know this,” said Naik.
