The National Institute of Oceanography (NIO)’s role in training farmers in the area of green mussels (shinnaneo) cultivation will be crucial in achieving the government’s vision of being ‘swayampurna’, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said on Wednesday.
He was addressing the World Ocean Day event organised by NIO at Dona Paula in the presence of NIO director Dr Sunil Kumar Singh and others. Chief Minister further deliberated that Goa has stressed on making it self-dependent by adopting ‘Swayampurna Goa’ project on the lines of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ that the Union government is following.
Pointing out that the NIO is offering in depth study to the students, the Chief Minister assured that the Goa government is willing to offer all kind of support that the organisation may need. “NIO’s efforts in conserving the nature are commendable and have to be recognised,” said Sawant. Certificates were distributed to those who were trained in green mussel farming. CM released a book ‘Samudramanthan’ on this occasion.
