Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar, ministers, legislators and people from different walks of life paid their last respects to noted freedom fighter Chandrakant Kenkre (87) who died at his residence in Shivnathi-Shiroda on Tuesday night.

His mortal remains were later consigned to the flames at the Tan-Shiroda crematorium on Wednesday noon.
Others who paid their respects included Forest Minister Rajendra Arlekar, PWD Minister Deepak Dhavalikar, Social Welfare Minister Mahadev Naik, Ponda MLA Lavu Mamledar, Sanvordem MLA Ganesh Gaonkar, former MLA Subhash Shirodkar, BBSM convenor Subhash Velingkar, freedom fighter and ex-MLA Rohidas Naik.
Kenkre had fought for Goa’s freedom and had even served sentence at Aguada’s Central jail during the Portuguese regime. He was president of Freedom Fighter’s Organisation from Shiroda-Ponda and was active in social service. The Goa government and other organisations had also felicitated him.
Kenkre is survived by wife, three sons and two daughters. He was also the president of Dr Sakharam Gude Trust. Chess was his favourite sport.
In his condolence message, CM Parsekar paid rich tributes to the life of Kenkre.
