CM releases first edition of 'Code of Comunidade'

The first edition of the book ‘Code of Communidade’ was released at the hands of Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant in the presence of Chief Secretary Parimal Ray. The book which is a ‘legislative diploma 2070’ dated 15-4-1961 has been compiled by the former collector of South Goa, N D Agrawal. ‘Code of Comunidade’ is a Portuguese Law enacted in the year 1961, and continued to be in force after liberation of Goa till date.

The government got the Code translated from Portuguese language to English. Print copies of the said translated versions were published by the Government Printing Press. Present compilation is of the English translation published by the government in 2012 and includes all the amendments passed by the Legislatures since liberation till today, the rules framed by the State government for effective implementation of ‘Code of Comunidade’, as well as many administrative orders issued by the government in the Code and some orders of High Court.

State Legislature also passed an Act to govern service conditions of the employees working under ‘Comunidade’ system under title the Goa, Daman and Diu Comunidade Employees (Conditions of Service) Act, 1981 (Act No. 15 of 1981). This book also incorporated the said Act.
