Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday announced the young scientist award from the next edition of The Manohar Parrikar Vigyan Mahotsav. The award is named after Goa’s former CM and ex-Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar.
“From the fifth edition of The Manohar Parrikar Vigyan Mahotsav, we will identify a young achiever in the field who will be awarded ‘The Manohar Parrikar Young Scientist Award.’ It will be a pan-India annual award consisting of Rs 5 lakh award money for scientists below 35 years of age,” Sawant said while addressing the fourth edition of the Vigyan Mahotsav at National Institute of Oceanography, Dona Paula.
Seventeen scientists of international repute were invited to interact with over 5,000 students, teachers and researchers on advancements in science and technology across eight venues within the State. The science event was also live on social media platforms for others who could not be a part of the event directly.
Sawant said the annual event is turning into a ‘flagship event’ of the Department of Science and Technology.
“This will surely inculcate scientific interest and temperament among the participating students and teachers. I want students to become prominent scientists and progress worldwide. My government is emphasizing quality education using advanced scientific modules and technology. Indeed this is an opportunity one must utilize for the advantage of future development of the State in terms of scientific index,” he further said.
Reiterating that the annual Mahotsav is held in memory of Parrikar, Sawant said the government has launched various schemes to promote science and technology among students and researchers.
