MARGAO
With the Aquem ring road finally under the scanner of the Margao Municipal authorities and the powers that be, the Comba ring road is craving for similar attention from the authorities.
A drive down the Comba ring road revealed the worst scenario, with the waste lying unattended along the kilometre long stretch, but motorists and passers-by are greeted by sewage odour with raw sewage flowing down the storm water nullah unabated.
Both Margao Municipal officials and citizens fear that with the Municipal and district authorities tightening the screws against unscrupulous elements disposing of waste along the Aquem ring road, the waste may find its way at the Comba ring road if no vigil is maintained by the concerned authorities.
The Comba ring road is playing its due role in the decongestion of the commercial capital, especially traffic bringing in thousands of school children to the city’s education hub at Comba. Besides, the Comba ring road has come in handy for the traffic from the coastal belt to the Panaji road without entering the commercial capital.
Sadly, the Comba ring road has become a dumping ground for waste, with the isolated stretch becoming a waste dump for want of street illumination. That’s not all. Travellers on the Comba ring road have to bear the sewage odour with the PWD and the district authorities coming out with no solution to plug the raw sewage flow into the storm water nullah.
