Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar on Tuesday said that the chief minister should be young at heart, even if he is slightly an elderly person.

He was responding to a question raised by a young voter at BJP’s youth convention in Panaji.

“It is really difficult to define young in politics. Today youth are needed in politics but if there are leadership qualities, age is not a bar. I became chief minister at the age of 44. I think in politics 44 is considered to be young and not middle-age,” he said.

“CM will be decided on leadership qualities by the elected MLAs. CM has to be young at heart even if he is an elderly person and one who can understand the aspirations of the youth.”

He also took a dig at the Congress for promising 5 litres of petrol to young students.

“This 5 litres of petrol promise is a bit weird. There are many other unrealistic things that the opposition has promised in its manifesto. They probably know that they will not get an opportunity to implement it in the State,” he said.

Informing that the BJP will release its manifesto on January 27, he said, “Agriculture has been listed under employment in our manifesto. And along with it we will encourage packing, packaging and marketing as regards business and employment in fishing sector. In the last five years, for the first time agriculture has grown in Goa.”
