What was already an open secret was finally confirmed by Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Saturday when he said Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar was suffering from pancreatic cancer.

He also said the chief minister, who has given so much for Goa, has to be left alone to spend quality time with his family.

“He is the chief minister of Goa and the fact is that he is not well. He has got pancreatic cancer. There is no hiding this fact. But what is his present condition…You know he has been brought back from AIIMS and he is at home,” said Rane.

The health minister, who appeared agitated with the probing media, revealed Parrikar’s condition after being badgered by media persons seeking an update on CM’s health along the sidelines of a function in Aldona.

Earlier, Rane reinforced his stand that it was the prerogative of Parrikar’s family to reveal his health parameters.

“His family has the right to say how much information we can give out. Even if I am a health minister, I cannot speak about it. The chief minister has tremendous amount of weakness and whole Goa knows about it. I don’t have to say anything on that,” the health minister said, seconds before he blurted out that Parrikar was suffering from cancer.

Rane also maintained that Parrikar has done a lot for Goa and it was time for him to spend some private time with his family.

“Let him be peaceful with his family. That much right he has after serving the people of Goa and if he wants to spend some quality time with his family, nobody has the business to ask,” he said.

Slamming the Congress and their leader, Jeetendra Deshprabhu, Rane said the Congress had no issues and were playing politics with the health of the CM.

“On CM’s condition, Jeetendra Deshrpabhu wants to go to court. Let them go to court. The Congress has no issues so they are after his health,” he stated.

Criticizing the opposition charge, Rane said whether Congress MLAs would disclose the condition of illness if one of them was suffering from serious illness.

“One of their MLAs had a serious illness. Did they disclose? Did their family disclose? He is also public figure. I don’t want to disclose his name. But can I make an issue in it?” Rane countered.
