Speaking after entertaining a delegation of members of ‘Goa Against Coal' who had met him to place their demand to stop the transport of coal through Goa said that, the chief minister brought forth the need of coal for electricity generation.
"This government has policy of creating conditions where environmental friendly operations will be encouraged. Now while I understand this, that environment friendly conditions should be there and everyone wants it. It is not that these conditions can be achieved overnight," Parrikar said after the meeting.
"For example, when we talk about power, this power which we are using is a thermal based power. So there is some coal burning somewhere. Goa is lucky. We are getting power from outside the State and the pollution is faced by the people somewhere in another State. But we should reduce dependence on power particularly thermal power," Parrikar said.
"The same way we should, reduce dependence on fossil fuels. For this reason we are promoting biofuel buses and but it doesn't happen overnight. It requires a lot of capital costs; these buses are costly, plus you require a lot of biofuel facility,"
Parrikar said.
