MARGAO
Development projects rained in the commercial capital on Tuesday after Chief Minister Pramod Sawant announced a slew of projects for the city, including a modern bus stand and the upgradation of the South Goa district hospital with a medical college affiliated to the hospital.
The Chief Minister also further announced that his government has written a letter to the Union Surface Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari to fund the T-shape flyover at the Comba railway crossing to do away with traffic congestion.
The Chief Minister reassured the Congress-turned-Margao MLA Digambar Kamat and the people in general that no injustice will be meted out to the commercial capital by the government.
Laying the foundation stone for the six-lane Rawanfond bridge and the beautification of the roads around the Margao railway station as part of the beautification plan in the presence of Kamat, Minister Subhash Phaldessai, MMC Chairperson Damu Shirodkar and others, the Chief Minister said the dream of every Madgavkar for a six-lane Rawafond bridge will finally see the light of the day. The bridge, the CM said, will cost the exchequer Rs 70 crore, while the road beautification will cost another Rs 14 crore.
Sawant sought to reassure the Margao MLA and the people that the city too will develop along with the rest of Goa.
“Many a citizen might have wondered why Kamat has returned to the party fold. One reason is to get development projects in the city so that Margao does not lag. The MLA has many ideas and we will translate the ideas into developmental projects,” he said.
Saying that the Margao MLA is guiding him as a big brother, the Chief Minister said the city will witness many projects in the next four years.
Saying that the flyover at the Comba railway crossing proposed by Kamat will see the light of day, Sawant said he has written a letter to Union Minister Gadkari to fund the project with central assistance.
Referring to the long-delayed Margao bus stand project, the Chief Minister said the government will set in process the construction of a modern bus stand.
Referring to the district hospital, Sawant said the South district hospital will be taken up for upgradation and announced that the medical college will be affiliated to the South district hospital in the next four years.
He further said the government will also help the local civic body to maintain the city clean and green, promising to solve the Sonsodo imbroglio and support the Margao Municipal Council to usher in the beautification of the city.
In his address, the Margao MLA thanked the Chief Minister for sanctioning the huge funds for the six-lane Rawanfond bridge and the road beautification project. He further said the flyover at the Comba railway crossing will be taken up on priority, saying he has spoken to Union Minister Nitin Gadkari.
Slamming his political opponents for criticizing him on social media and mainstream media on the development front, Kamat thundered that he will not care for such news and stories so long as Madgavkars stand firmly behind him.
