CMC approves Rs 29.49 cr budget for 2024-25

The Canacona Municipal Council (CMC) approved a budget of Rs 29.49 crore for the financial year 2024-25.

The budgetary balance sheet of Rs 29,49,34,952 submitted for the year 2024-25 was approved in the recent council meeting chaired by CMC Chairperson Ramakant Naikgaunkar.

It is expected that the CMC will collect Rs 53.32 crore from various schemes and sources. This includes rent and land tax (Rs 55 lakh), signboard and advertisement board (Rs 14 lakh), Octroi (Rs 1 crore), rent from Municipal property Rs 55 lakh, building rent 85 lakh, construction fee (Rs 1.5 crore), Sopo tax (Rs 50 lakh), revenue through coastal shacks and Tents (Rs 1.5 crore).

The CMC is also expected to get funds of Rs 1.59 crore through various schemes of the government. This includes funds for various developmental work (Rs 3 crore), wages of workers being recruited for pre-monsoon work (Rs 45 lakh), Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (Rs 5 lakh), Finance Commission (Rs 4 crore), Solid Waste Management (Rs 20 lakh), Health subsidy (Rs 1 crore), Common Cadre Employees (Rs 42 lakh).

A provision of Rs 1.84 crore has also been made in this budget for registration of births and deaths, water connection, electricity connection, income certificates, night soil tanker hire, door to door garbage collection,

In the coming financial year, the CMC will spend Rs 2 crore on salary of permanent employees, Rs 40 lakh on common cadre employees, Rs 30 lakh on seasonal employees, Rs 1.5 crore on daily wage workers, Rs 30 lakh on honorarium of chairperson and councillors, Rs 3 lakh on uniforms, Rs 3.1 lakh on disbursement of bonus and Rs 1 crore on pension, while expenses to the tune of Rs 7.66 crore will be incurred on medical allowances, sports materials, sweepers, etc.

CMC Vice-Chairperson Narcisco Fernandes, Councillors Gandesh Madgaonkar, Laxuman Pagi, Nitu Desai, Hemant Naik Gaonkar, Simon Rebelo, Sara Naikdesai, Amita Pagi were present at the council meeting.
