CANACONA
Two staffers at the Canacona Municipal Council (CMC) were among the 11 new cases detected in Canacona, prompting the CMC to shut down the administrative building on Tuesday and Wednesday.
There are now 182 confirmed Covid cases in the taluka.
The Canacona Fire Services sanitised the entire CMC administrative building on Tuesday after two of its staff members tested positive.
“The municipal council has been closed for two days, on Tuesday and Wednesday, as precautionary measures for other staff and visiting public,” said CMC Chairperson Nitu Desai.
“Covid cases have already started rising in Canacona since the last few days and with the border at Polem check post now being opened up without any Covid-related restrictions, there is every possibility of a further spike in cases in Canacona in the next few days.”
“Everyone in Canacona should exercise extreme care and practice all safety measures to avoid contracting the virus,” Desai added.
According to Canacona Health Officer Dr Vandana Desai, the active cases in Canacona taluka has reached 95 as on Tuesday.
“The overall count has increased from 171 to 182. Most cases are symptomatic and some tested positive after coming into contact with those who earlier tested positive from the municipal areas of Palolem, Colomb, Devabhag, Ponsulem, Bhaireliwada and Delem besides Bhatpal, Shristhal and Poinguinim.
