The Zuarinagar Containment Zone was on Tuesday de-sealed and converted into two micro containment zones, with some parts of Zuarinagar being excluded from the containment zones.
According to an order by South Goa Collector Ajit Roy, the Zuarinagar containment zone was initially declared to contain the spread of the virus after 29 members of 17 families who were residents of Zuarinagar had tested positive.
The order stated that 63 days have been passed since the declaration of the Zuarinagar area as a containment zone and the matter discussed with all stakeholders. There are no active cases in the zone and the area of containment zone is considerably large in size, causing a lot of hardships to residents in the containment zone.
"The containment zone order has been reviewed taking into the consideration all the relevant factors and boundaries of the containment zone are required to be redefined into smaller micro containment zones till recovery of last Covid positive cases and 14 days thereafter the discharge of such last positive Covid cases," stated the order.
The de-sealing of the Zuarinagar Containment Zone and declaration of two micro containment zones will be welcomed by people in Zuarinagar, as they eagerly look forward to the eventual de-sealing of the micro containment zones.
The Covid cases initially being detected in Zuarinagar had been a cause of serious concern across the State, especially since Zuarinagar is Goa’s largest slum area and cases could easily have spread to other parts of the State.
