CME on breast cancer held at GMC
PANAJI: The Indian Academy of Cytologists in collaboration with the Department of Pathology Goa Medical College and the Medical Education Cell, Goa Medical College, Bambolim, organised a CME (Continuing Medical Education) programme on "Targeted Therapy for Breast Cancer" in GMC recently. The faculty was Dr Ian Pinto, consultant in Haematology and Medical Oncology, Sir HN Hurkisondas Reliance Foundation Hospital, Girgaum, Mumbai. Dr RG Wiseman Pinto chaired the scientific session. The topics that were covered were molecular sub-types of breast cancer, luminal type, abluminal type, basal types of breast cancer, genetic alterations. Signalling pathways, molecular targeting agents, directed against ER (estrogen receptors), PR (progesterone receptors) and HER (herceptine receptor), Tyrosine Kinase inhibitors, inhibitors to BRCA (breast cancer) gene, combination therapy, Immunohisto chemistry, FISH (fluorescent in situ hybridisation), new generation sequencing (NGS), immune check point inhibitors like CTLA 4 ,PD1 and PDL 1, androgen receptor inhibitors for breast cancer, genetic profiling of various cancers and circulating cancer cells.
