In a significant development in the recent stabbing incident at Khobrawaddo, Calangute, which is believed to have stemmed from a business rivalry in the local tattoo trade, Calangute Police have arrested one of the key co-accused in the case.
The prime accused, however, continues to evade arrest.
The arrested individual, identified as Parshuram is alleged to have played a critical role in orchestrating the assault by luring the victim to the location where the attack took place.
According to police sources, Parshuram made a phone call to the victim and convinced him to come to a particular spot in Khobrawaddo under the pretext of resolving a dispute.
Once there, the victim was allegedly ambushed and stabbed by the main accused, Akash Lamani, who is currently on the run.
Two days earlier, police had arrested Arun Shankar Pawar (26), another co-accused, for allegedly helping Lamani flee the crime scene and avoid arrest. Investigators believe Pawar provided logistical support and may have been involved in planning the escape route after the crime.
The stabbing occurred on Sunday night and left the victim, identified as Arun Lamani from Karnataka, with grievous injuries.
He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital and is currently recovering.
Calangute Police have intensified efforts to locate and apprehend Akash Lamani, who is considered the main assailant.
Teams have been dispatched to various locations, including across state borders, in pursuit of leads.
“We are making steady progress in the investigation. With the arrest of the co-accused, we now have a clearer picture of the sequence of events that led to the attack. Efforts are on to track down the prime accused and we are confident of nabbing him soon,” a police official said.
