Coast Guard (Goa Region) DIG Manoj Baadkar has said the Coast Guard is geared up to handle any eventualities during the forthcoming monsoons.
Baadkar also appreciated the State government’s efforts in warning fishermen not to venture into the sea during the last two occasions of rough weather and strong winds.
“By the month end, the monsoon will approach Goa and as every year, the Coast Guard will be prepared and geared for any eventualities during monsoons. We have sent several advisories to the State government.”
“The sea was rough on two recent occasions but the State government had taken great effect steps to warn fishermen from venturing into rough sea, which is why there was no incidents at sea.
“Nevertheless, the Coast Guard is all geared for the monsoons in case of any assistance,” said Baadkar.
DIG Baadkar recalled that smaller fishing vessels have sometimes struggled during rough weather while returning to the shore.
“As a practice, small fishermen must inform their families the approximate time of return so that if they do not arrive by that time, people on the shore can alert the Coast Guard, marine police and coastal security so that we can conduct a search and save them if they are in trouble,” added Baadkar.
