MARGAO
The sorry state of affairs of the Margao KTC depot came to the fore again on Friday after the plaster of the ceiling collapsed in the morning.
The incident only brought to the fore the host of problems plaguing the KTC depot, with KTC bus drivers and conductors raising the same old questions “ no descent rest room, erratic water supply to the wash room and unsanitary toilets. And, the canteen stands closed on ground of hygiene following an FDA raid.
A group of KTC drivers and conductors were huddled on the floor in the rest room when the plaster collapsed from the ceiling outside. A driver pointed out that they have been sleeping in the rest room like animals. “The rest room is just for namesake. There are no facilities, leaving us to take rest on the floor,” remarked a driver.
Another driver pointed out that water supply to the toilet block has been erratic, adding that there’s no proper drinking water facility for the drivers and conductors. “We had raised these issues several times in the past, but in vain. What we have received from the higher authorities are only assurances and promises,” lamented a KTC conductor.
When the media asked a senior KTC official to shed light on the problems plaguing the KTC depot, vis-Ã -vis the plight of the drivers and conductors, he evaded the question by saying the depot had brought the ground reality to the notice of the higher authorities, including the civil engineering section. “I have informed the head office of the ceiling plaster falling down this morning. My job is to only take up the issues with the head office,” he added.
