MARGAO
Following the complaint from the Shadow Council for Margao pointing out to the fraud in the waste collection system adopted in the six wards of MMC through the agency Bapu Environmental Social Service Organisation, the Directorate of Municipal Administration has directed the Chief Officer of Margao Municipal Council to take action and submit Action Taken Report (ATR) by June 8.
The SCM has been complaining over the irregularities in the waste collection system through the agency and has alleged that the elected Council, conniving with the agency, is siphoning precious public funds.
The Shadow Council for Margao has also complained that the agency has been engaged by the council without any requisite council resolution nor following proper codal procedures, and has demanded that the said MOU signed with the agency namely Bapu Environmental Social Service Organisation should be terminated / withdrawn with immediate effect.
The DMA was requested to verify the attendance/effectively of the worker’s reportedly engaged by the contractor, which was duly certified and submitted by the supervisors of the Council and was further requested to cross check the said list with the worker’s register and EPF records submitted by the contractor to the Council. The comparison of both the lists was sufficient to conclude that there was a scam involved, SCM convenor Savio Coutinho stated.
In the complaint filed by the SCM, it was demanded that the excess payments released to the contractor be immediately recovered and no further payments be released to the said contractor.
