The Goa Coast Guard has initiated preventive measures following the IMD warning for the likely formation of low pressure over the Southeast Arabian Sea by May 14.
"The Coast Guard at Goa has initiated preventive measures like maintaining ships at standby notice to meet any eventualities. Surveillance aircraft are geared up for augmenting SAR efforts. Ships at sea have been asked to relay weather advisory to fishermen at sea. If need be, fishing boats be shepherded to nearest harbours,” stated the Coast Guard in a press release.
The weather advisory has concurrently been shared with all stakeholders, and the directorate of fisheries has been advised to recall all fishing boats venturing at sea including country boats.
Port authorities are also advised for the safe operation of coastal vessels/MSVs.
Electronic surveillance has been amplified from ICG Remote Operating Station and VHF alerting is being done, the press release added.
