SANGUEM
The Covid Care Centre which was inaugurated by Deputy Chief Minister Chandrakant (Babu) Kavlekar on May 7 was made operational on Wednesday.
Housed in the auditorium of Government College Quepem, the centre is equipped with 50 beds complete with oxygen supply for emergency needs and has two sections for women and men.
The Covid Care Centre has been opened to fulfil the needs of Covid patients from Sanguem, Curchorem and Quepem and other areas, informed Kavlekar.
The centre is about one kilometre from the Quepem Primary Health Centre (PHC) and will be manned by doctors from the Quepem PHC, in addition to private doctors from nearby areas who have agreed to provide services at the centre.
With the increasing number of Covid cases in Sanguem, Quepem and Curchorem, the centre will come as a huge relief to patients from the areas of Sanguem, Curchorem and Quepem who otherwise have to rush to either to the District Hospital or ESI Hospital for the desired treatment.
The centre had come in for criticism after it was opened on May 7, the birthday of Deputy Chief Minister Chandrakant Kavlekar, but was not thrown open for admission for Covid patients.
The Centre was finally opened for admission to patients on Wednesday, but the extent of services to be provided at the Centre will, however, be known in the next few days.
Meanwhile, as part of ongoing social service for the people of Sanguem taluka, Vision Sanguem an initiative by social worker Savitri Kavlekar has started an ambulance service for Covid patients in emergency.
The service started on Wednesday and was largely welcomed by people from Sanguem as people from remote areas have to face extreme difficulties at times of emergency and have to contact friends and relatives for assistance to get them shifted to hospitals.
