As part of these deliberations, it was decided to resume the Covid vaccination drive in all villages in the taluka and the drive will begin for those above 45 years of age at Poinguinim (Shradhanand Vidhyalaya) and Loliem-Polem (Damodar Vidhyalaya) villages from 9.30 am to 2 pm on Thursday.

The meeting at Shristhal-Canacona was chaired by Fernandes and attended by Observer (South) and Law Secretary C R Garg, Covid Vaccination Nodal Officer Johnson Fernandes, Covid Care Center -Nodal Officer Deepak Dessai, Incident Commandant of Disaster Management (Canacona) Vinayak Volvoikar, Canacona Dy Collector Udhay Prabhudesai, Dy Collector (Dharbondara) Kedar Naik, Canacona Mamlatdar Vimod Dalal, Health Officer Dr Jose Tavares, BDO Gurudas Naik and CPDO Akansha Dessai.

The MLA expressed concern over the high number of Covid cases being reported daily in Canacona.

It was informed that though nearly 700 active cases are present in Canacona, most cases are mild symptomatic and undergoing home isolation, while about 35 patients mostly with co-morbidity and complications have been hospitalised in Margao, Bambolim or elsewhere.

The committee was told that the 10-bedded step-up Covid Care Ward opened at CHC had only one Covid patient so far.

The committee also discussed the Covid Call Centre at Shri Mallikarjun College, while enquired on availability of testing kits, home isolation kits, along with medications, availability of oxygen and allied services in emergencies and other related emergency measures in Canacona.

The members were also informed that people with the slightest symptoms have now begun to visit the CHC for Covid tests, resulting in early detection and lesser need for hospitalisation.

Meanwhile, 64 fresh cases were detected on Wednesday spread across all seven villages and the municipality in the taluka.

The new cases were detected in the municipality (22), Shristhal (9), Agonda(10), Khola (5), Gaondongrim (5), Khotigao (3), Poinguinim (9) and Loliem-Polem (1), taking the number to 672 active cases at present.
