Residents of Colmorod ward of Margao Municipal Council on Friday cried foul over water shortage to the locality and the delay in completing ongoing sewerage works along the NH-17.
Led by the ward Councillor Sheikh Jaffer, the residents said they had to go without water supply since the last two weeks, while attributing the situation to the road digging work undertaken by the PWD to lay sewerage line. ‘We have been suffering over the water shortage since the last three months. The situation has turned worse since the last two weeks, with the residents not receiving any water,” claimed a resident Monica Pereira.
She also demanded to know why the road digging work has not been completed within a time frame, saying that the residents are now exposed to road accidents with a single lane converted into a makeshift two way road.
The ward councillor warned that the residents will have no option if the authorities fail to complete the work within a set deadline. “Can the authorities explain to the residents of Colmorod why they are facing water shortage for the last three months? If the road digging has damaged the pipeline, why has the contractor not repaired the water line immediately? Jaffer questioned, and charged the contractor for the slow pace of work on the sewerage project.
