Colva Covid care centre to be operational soon

The Covid care centre proposed by Benaulim MLA Churchill Alemao at Colva is set to function with the government sanctioning health care workers, including doctors and nurses to run it.

Senior officials including Covid Nodal Officer Dipak Desai and Deputy Collector John Fernandes inspected the Colva Church hall centre, proposed by the Benaulim MLA, is being set up.

Churchill’s daughter Valanka informed that an inspection of the centre was carried out on Tuesday along with Desai, Fernandes and Dr Socorro Quadros, PHC Cansaulim.

Director of Health Services said the proposed centre will start functioning within a week.

“It’s going to be a 28-bedded centre to start with and we will add more beds if the situation warrants,” she said, adding that moves are afoot to also make the Varca Covidcare centre operational at the earliest.

The Benaulim MLA had proposed centres in the constituency amid rising Covid cases along the coast. The centres, however, could not become operational for want of health care workers.
