Four houses along the highway near Oshalbag-Dhargal had to face severe hardship as muck blocked the gutter due to heavy rains last week.
When the contractor failed to clean the gutter, affected locals got into the act and had to clean the gutter themselves.
According to sources, families from all four houses were to have moved elsewhere since they were too close to the highway.
The affected locals had appealed to authorities to shift them elsewhere, considering the ongoing construction work but no action was taken in last the three years.
Following heavy rains on account of the cyclone, muck clogged the gutters and water flooded a hardware shop owned by Rupesh Naroji, the bar of Namdev Naroji and the house of Joseph Noronha.
When the contractor did not clean the gutter, a group of local youth, Amar Naroji, Namdev Naroji, Rupesh Naroji, Zilu Naroji, Brahmanand Naroji, Joseph Noronha and Shashikant Sawant cleaned the gutter to allow the free flow of water.
