The Colva creek is back in the news again over the same old issue – pollution of the water body.
Visitors and locals found the creek dirty, with waste floating in the water body. Locals pointed out that the construction of the sewerage treatment plant has in no way stopped the flow of sewage and waste into the water body.
Reason: Hardly a few commercial establishments and households have got their establishments and premises connected to the underground sewerage network. In fact, the 7.5 MLD STP has been operating below its capacity for want of sewage.
The STP was inaugurated by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Opinion Poll Day in January last, promising to put an end to the pollution of the creek waters.
However, the ground reality has not changed for the better till date, with the plant not receiving sewage from the commercial establishments and households.
